Before you begin, ensure you have the following items from home:
- Microwave (for melting soap base)
- Paper towels or a cloth for cleanup
- Optional: Essential oils for scent (not included)
Set up your mess mat on a clean, flat surface. Arrange all kit components within easy reach.
Operating Instructions: Making Your Crystal Soaps
Step 1: Prepare the Soap Base
- Cut the clear soap base into small cubes.
- Place the soap cubes into the beaker.
- Microwave the soap in 10-15 second intervals, stirring with a craft stick after each interval, until fully melted. Be careful not to overheat.
Step 2: Add Color and Sparkle
- Once the soap is melted, add a few drops of liquid color to achieve your desired shade. Stir well.
- For a shimmery effect, add a small amount of mica powder using the mini scoop. Stir until evenly distributed.
- If using optional essential oils, add a few drops now and stir.

Step 3: Pour into Molds
- Carefully pour the melted soap mixture into the silicone molds (crystal or square).
- For ombre effects, pour one color, let it set slightly, then pour another color on top.
- For geode effects, you can add small pieces of pre-cut soap or other decorative elements into the mold before pouring.
Step 4: Setting and Demolding
- Allow the soap to cool and harden completely. This can take several hours at room temperature, or you can place the molds in the refrigerator for faster setting (approximately 30-60 minutes).
- Once fully hardened, gently flex the silicone mold to release your finished soap.

The Science Behind the Fun
This kit offers a hands-on way to explore basic scientific principles:
Soap Chemistry:
Soap works because its molecules have a unique structure: one end is attracted to water (hydrophilic), and the other end is attracted to oil and grease (hydrophobic). When you wash your hands, the hydrophobic ends attach to dirt and oils, while the hydrophilic ends allow the soap-dirt mixture to be rinsed away with water.
Geode Formations:
Geodes are natural rock formations that contain a hollow cavity lined with crystals. They form when mineral-rich water seeps into a cavity in a rock. Over time, the minerals crystallize, growing inward to fill the space. Your soap geodes mimic this natural process by layering colors and adding mica powder to create a crystal-like appearance.
